Georgia Improves Licensing Law
AMTA is excited to announce that the Georgia Governor signed a bill which includes promotion of massage therapy as a therapeutic health care profession. The bill enacts standards for city and county ordinances relating to therapeutic massage.
The bill revises the current Practice Act and specifically includes the following:
- Promotion of massage therapy as a therapeutic health care profession
- Improves state regulation and enforcement of illicit activity
- Amends continuing education credits
- Enacts standards for city and county ordinances relating to therapeutic massage
The aim is to establish board regulation of massage therapy educational programs; authorize the regulatory board to permit continuing education credits in reflexology, structural integration, and other modalities and increase enforcement authority.
The revisions to the Practice Act came about through a close collaboration between AMTA, its Georgia Chapter, its lobbyist and other relevant stakeholder groups in the state.
